After graduating from Boston College Law School, Gerald Zerkin practiced for 25 years in Richmond, Virginia, handling personal injury, civil rights and common and complex criminal trials and appeals, and post-conviction proceedings, in state and federal courts. He argued dozens of cases in the appellate courts of Virginia and the Fourth Circuit and other United States Courts of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. In 2001, Mr. Zerkin became the Senior Litigator in the Federal Public Defender Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, defending a wide variety of criminal cases, including the only 9/11 prosecution in federal court.
