Habeas Corpus

After graduating from Boston College Law School, Gerald Zerkin practiced for 25 years in Richmond, Virginia, handling personal injury, civil rights and common and complex criminal trials and appeals, and post-conviction proceedings, in state and federal courts. He argued dozens of cases in the appellate courts of Virginia and the Fourth Circuit and other United States Courts of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. In 2001, Mr. Zerkin became the Senior Litigator in the Federal Public Defender Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, defending a wide variety of criminal cases, including the only 9/11 prosecution in federal court. After serving as Capital Resource Counsel, advising federal capital defense teams around the country, he returned to private practice in 2015.  He is representing criminal defendants at trial, on appeal and in post-conviction, and primarily plaintiffs in civil litigation.
